The 5000 Year-Old Book of Prophecy

By Jonathan Parker, Ph.D.

You May Be In It!

It is called The Books of Bhrighu (sometimes spelled 'Bregu') and was written by a sage of the same name who lived 5000 years ago. While in trance, he received detailed and specific knowledge foretelling the destiny of many people, and he wrote his messages on thousands of palm leaves. It is reported that there are as many as 10 tons of these leaves at one particular location. The leaves are preserved by a gold covering. Although the original books were inscribed on palm leaves, in the last few centuries, many of the families had their manuscript's made into printed and bound books for greater permanency.

The 'book' does not contain everyone's name, but strangely enough it contains the names of everyone destined to come and ask for a reading from the priest who is the keeper of the book. When a seeker wishes to draw on this ancient store of knowledge, he visits one of the families who hold copies of these books. There, after paying the reading fee, the pages that concern him are read out in Sanskrit and translated into the local language. Obviously, no single book can contain all the details of all the lives of all the people born, and reborn, in this world; thus it is commonly believed that circumstances will not permit you to consult a Bhrighu book unless details of your life appear in it.

One of the many beliefs connected with the books is that the name of the consultant is written in the book along with the date and time of the consultation: details, apparently, which are read out to the seeker at the commencement of his reading. The day and time you arrive at the priest's door combined with your birth date, and the length of your shadow at the time of arrival are all calculated together in order to arrive at which palm leaf is yours. The books contain information about a person's past lives, present life circumstances, and their future -- including future lives.

The following is a partial account of one person's experience with the book:

"You have come here after 44 years. You have come seeking general information about yourself and not answers to specific questions. Your star is Pooram... in your last birth you were an only son. At the age of 22 you went to serve your country. At 28 you loved a girl from another religion. She was from a different caste and creed. Your family did not approve. The girl took poison and died. She was reborn in this age. You are married to her now."

"You are a man who will argue out things. Your father is dead. You received no benefits from your father. He knew about the science of human nature. Your mother is not happy now. You are your mother's eldest son. Your family consists of four people: you have three dependents. You live with your wife; you are not a bachelor. Your wife is pretty; she looks like her parents. Your wife will come to hear this story. You have no brothers and sisters in this birth; you are the only son again you are a tall man; your height is 6 foot lengths and two finger lengths. You suffer from no diseases. You are well built; you exercise every day. You lead a happy life. You have only one son; no daughter."

Except for the statements regarding the past life, all the other statements are true. Some of them could have been determined by inference, but most could not. It is interesting to note that although there is no way to verify the past life, there are amazing parallels with this life. This person is an only son, and although he does not know if he originally belonged to a warrior caste, he does have a martial tradition in his family. His father, grandfather, and both uncles were officers in the military. He joined the Navy at the age of 22. He fell in love with a girl who was not of his faith. They married when he was 29 and she is his wife today. He is a man who argues out things since he is a lawyer. He was legally left no inheritance; therefore received no benefits from his father.

There is no rational explanation for how these statements could be in this book. Many believe that the writings in the books are used as a means of forming psychic inferences. This would make the Bhrighu books function much like Tarot cards or a psychic's crystal ball. Others say the books themselves contain amazingly accurate details, although some of the true meaning can be lost through the translation. In any case, they present some interesting philosophical questions. If these books do in fact contain accurate details about the lives of people today, how in control are we of our lives? Is there a force beyond our awareness determining our lives?

From the ego viewpoint of the individual there is free will. If life is viewed as a classroom and God the teacher, then the daily lessons are planned out far in advance. The responsibility of the student is to observe and learn, and the classroom of life will present the lessons necessary to take the student on the journey to fully surrender the ego to God. In this sense, God has set the stage and written the script, and we live the role.

******************************************************* Dear Jonathan,

I'm not yet satisfied with my understanding of fate & freewill. Please post your comments on the following. (Be warned # 3 it's a .... you'll see)! Thanks, Hobbs

1. Is fate & freewill the same? You have launched on some difficult concepts to grasp, so don't become too disheartened if you don't completely get this the first run through. It took me months and years to figure out the answers to a lot of these type of questions.

The word 'fate' carries the connotation that there is nothing you can do about your life. The fact is you can, but that doesn't mean that your destiny is not known. I think this will become more clear as you read on.

2. Let's agree for the sake of argument that a 100% reliable psychic predicted that "John Doe" would live to the age of 120 disease free. Can John Doe willfully and successfully contract the AIDS virus?

Most psychics will always tell you that the future is written in pencil and is based on probabilities resulting from the energy patterns existing at the current moment. This is because that is all most psychics can 'read.' There are very, very few individuals with clear enough psychic perceptions to be totally accurate far into the future, because most psychics are not fully enlightened beings and therefore do not know the full mind of God.

If John Doe contracted the AIDS virus in your scenario, the 100% reliable psychic wouldn't have been 100% reliable. A true 100% reliable psychic would have seen that he would get the virus. With that aside, I think what you are asking is, "Is the future predetermined." The answer is that if you knew ALL, and I do mean ALL the factors affecting a situation, you could make 100% accurate predictions. Knowing what a person will choose to do is not forcing a person to make those choices.

There is one other factor that needs to be thrown into the scenario, and that is that outside the physical dimension, all time is simultaneous, and therefore the end is known from the beginning. Isaiah 46:9-10. Verse 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Verse 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.

3. I believe that if it is God's will for this man to live disease free, he will live disease free, but I also believe that natural or physical laws will give this man AIDS if he has unprotected sex with someone who has AIDS, so, will God not reveal his will so that he will act responsibly, or if God's will was revealed, it would take a miracle for this man not to contract AIDS.?

If something is God's will, that is what will happen because the situation contrary to God's will would not happen unless that was God's will. Individual will is only an illusion perceived by the individual. In reality, it does not exist. I think part of your difficulty is in your concept of God. Everything that exists is within an energy field of universal intelligence. When a thought of will is created that is what exists, and nothing else can exist. The appearance of a miracle is only from the perspective of one who does not see the totality of existence.

4. Is a miracle that which defies natural laws, or just enlightened use of the law?

Enlightened use of law. Miracles only appear to be miracles to those who don't understand how they are done.

5. Can a spiritual law be broken to perform a miracle?

The answer is no, however, I'm not sure what you mean by a spiritual law. There's no need to break a law" you just use a different one.
